Fosstodon Admin team
I've been a happy member of the Fosstodon community for a while now. When I changed Mastodon instances the last time, I looked at a number of them and a couple seemed like a good fit. I work in open source, and Fosstodon seemed like the place for open source people to congregate, exchange ideas, share common interests, and build community with one another. The decision became pretty simple.
Earlier this month, after Gina took over as lead on the instance, she put out a call for moderators. I have been doing community for many years, I enjoy the instance and giving back to the open source community, so I raised my hand. About a week later, she put out a call for a couple of people to join her in administration of the instance. I raised my hand to begin conversations, but of course had a bunch of questions - administration of an instance this size is no small undertaking and I wanted to ensure I would honestly be a good fit. She and I met, had a great discussion, she let me know another person raised their hand, and shortly after, Brandon and I joined together with Gina to take this thing forward. Here's is Gina's nice blog post announcing us.
There is a fantastic group of moderators now, who are thoughtfully working through any incoming reports to ensure this remains a safe space for everyone.
I'm really happy to be part of the Admin team, and hope my experience can be useful to the Fosstodon community. We have a ton of things to do. We have a ton of things to document. We have a ton of potential growth that is going to take some time.
And it's going to be a fun ride.
